Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) Policy

Unity Drive

Booking Medical Transport?

Let us know your appointment time and mobility needs and we'll arrange the right vehicle and driver-owner.

Unity Drive provides Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) services for riders who need reliable, scheduled transportation to and from medical appointments, dialysis, therapy sessions, and hospital visits across King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties. This policy explains how our NEMT rides work and what to expect from pickup to drop-off.

Note: This policy reflects Unity Drive's current NEMT service framework for the purposes of this design preview. Final legal language is pending review by outside counsel prior to public launch.

1. What Is Non-Emergency Medical Transport?

NEMT refers to scheduled, non-urgent transportation for riders who do not require ambulance-level emergency care but need dependable transport to healthcare-related destinations. Unity Drive's driver-owners provide door-to-door and, where requested, door-through-door assistance for riders with mobility limitations, chronic conditions, or recovery-related transportation needs.

2. Mobility & Facility Accommodations

We offer a range of vehicle options to match your mobility needs:

2.1 Wheelchair Lift Vehicle Options

For riders who use a wheelchair or scooter, we dispatch vehicles equipped with hydraulic or ramp-based wheelchair lifts and certified securement systems. Please indicate your mobility device type (manual wheelchair, power wheelchair, or scooter) when booking so we can confirm the correct vehicle is available.

2.2 Ambulatory & Semi-Ambulatory Support

For riders who can walk short distances with support, driver-owners can provide an arm-in-arm assist and help with walkers, canes, or crutches between the vehicle and the facility entrance.

3. Hospital & Facility Drop-Off Procedures

Unity Drive's driver-owners are familiar with the entrances, drop-off zones, and check-in procedures at major Seattle-area medical facilities, including Harborview Medical Center, Swedish Medical Center, and UW Medicine locations, as well as many smaller clinics and dialysis centers throughout King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties. When booking, please provide the specific facility name, department, and appointment time so the driver-owner can plan the correct entrance and drop-off point, especially for large hospital campuses with multiple buildings.

For return trips, we recommend scheduling your pickup with a reasonable buffer after your expected appointment end time, since appointment durations can vary. Riders can also call our support line to arrange a return pickup once discharged or finished with their appointment.

4. Scheduling Requirements for Medical Appointments

Because appropriately equipped vehicles are limited, we ask that NEMT rides be scheduled at least 24 to 48 hours in advance whenever possible, particularly for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, recurring dialysis or treatment schedules, and appointments at hospital campuses. Recurring appointments (such as weekly dialysis or physical therapy) can be set up as a standing booking to simplify scheduling. Riders working with a case manager, caregiver, or facility discharge planner are welcome to have that party coordinate scheduling directly with our support team.
